The Danger

From a Conversation with The Dalai Lama

Many Tibetans are very determined, especially those who spend years in Chinese prisons. Our determination is not motivated by hatred, but by compassion. One Tibetan monk who spent more than 18 years in a Chinese labor camp told me on a few occasions that he had really faced danger. So I asked him, "What danger?" And he replied, "The danger of losing compassion for the Chinese." That's marvelous, isn't it? Our determination is maintained not by hatred, but by this kind of spirit.

Persevering FOR Peace
Nearly 40 years after his flight from Tibet, the Dalai Lama remains steadfast in his determination to gain Tibetan autonomy and preserve the cultural and religious heritage of his homeland.
